Rest In Peace: Frankie Beverly.

It’s with much sorrow that we report that Frankie Beverly, a true music innovator, singer, songwriter, producer and founder of the band Maze, died today.

He left us at the age of 77.

Mr. Beverly at this year's Urban One Honors.

We had the opportunity to meet Mr. Beverly this past December during the filming of this year’s Urban One Honors, where he received the Living Legend Award.

Wow.

We even got a chance to cut up with him during the after party. We had no clue it would be our first and last time in his presence, and we are forever grateful.

Mr. Beverly’s death was confirmed by his family in a post via the band’s Facebook and Instagram accounts:

“Grieving the loss of a loved one is a deeply personal and emotional experience,” the announcement reads. “This period is one of healing, and your respect for our need for solitude is appreciated as we honor the memory of our beloved Howard Stanley Beverly known to the world as Frankie Beverly.”

May he forever Rest In Peace.
