In Memorandum: Rest In Peace to PNB Rock & Jessie Powell

We hate breaking bad news. Really we do. But Unfortunately, Rapper PnB Rock was shot on Sept. 12th, while he was out dining at popular LA Eatery, Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after.

According to Hip Hop Wired by way of TMZ, PnB was eating at the food chain’s Inglewood location with his girlfriend on Monday afternoon. During their visit, a gunman came entered the restaurant and shot PnB. Reportedly, the assailant grabbed jewelry from PnB’s body right before fleeing without harming anyone else.

We won’t go into any of the speculations surrounding the incident, because this ain’t the space for that. We will, however, take this time to send our condolences to his team, family, friends, and supporters.

In my days of Stuff Fly People Like, we supported many of his projects, and he definitely returned the love, at a time when we were relatively new and unknown. He was one of the artist with a great team that motivated us by supporting us. I will forever be grateful for that.

A few days later, we received more bad news. Singer Jesse Powell has passed away. He was found in his Los Angeles home. Powell was 51 years old. His sisters, Tamara and Trina Powell (both artists as well) announced his death via social media.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell. He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home," Tamara captioned on Instagram. "The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy. Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career."

Now, if his name doesn’t ring a bell, his hit single, “You,’” definitely will.

“You,” which dropped in 1996— has had weddings in a chokehold for over three decades and counting. In an era where uptempo R&B/Hip Hop tracks ruled the airwaves, this song pushed through claimed a spot, and stood tall. To date, it’s been streamed nearly 13 million times on Spotify.
We are happy that he passed peacefully, as we have been experiencing way too many deaths due to violence. Rest In Peace Jesse, this song and your legacy are already sketched in the hearts of many, including ours.
