On Our Calendar: I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Now, we know there have been a FEW movies about the life of our beloved Queen, Whitney Houston.

So when we received the media alert for yet another one, we felt the exact same way you do at this very moment. Exhausted.

But then we read the synopsis.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody is a powerful and triumphant celebration of the incomparable Whitney Houston. Directed by Kasi Lemmons, written by Academy Award® nominee Anthony McCarten, produced by legendary music executive Clive Davis and starring BAFTA Award® winner Naomi Ackie, the film is a no-holds-barred portrait of the complex and multifaceted woman behind The Voice. From New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling and most awarded recording artists of all time, audiences are taken on an inspirational, poignant—and so emotional—journey through Houston’s trailblazing life and career, with show-stopping performances and a soundtrack of the icon’s most beloved hits as you’ve never heard them before. Don’t you wanna dance?

Did they say produced by Clive Davis? ?? Now, we are pretty sure that Clive has not participated in ANY of the past films about the life of Whitney. And we know without a shadow of a doubt that the duo had a deep amount of love, appreciation, and respect for each other. Y'all, it SEEMS as if this one might really be about her musical journey, which truly was EPIC. Let’s step into the trailer.

Ok, here’s where we are at. Clive was with Whitney throughout her entire career. Every step. I’ve always wanted to hear about her from his mouth, and now we get to see the story, through his lens.

SOLD.

Not to mention, more than enough of Whitney’s personal life has been depicted in past films. MORE THAN ENOUGH. And we are tired of the negatives being spotlighted more than the positives. We want to see the superstar. We want to see the origins. And most importantly, we need the REAL music included, because we’ve had enough with the voiceovers.

So let the countdown begin!

I Wanna Dance With Somebody is exclusively in theaters on December 21, 2022.

We’ll see you there!
